Composing Your Text

Article Length: There is no set limit on the length of your article. However, we recommend that you be as brief as possible. Ideally, your article will not exceed 100 words. Keep in mind that studies show most people will only read 300-500 words before they move on.

Special Characters: Special characters, such as tildes, trademark (tm), copyright (c), registered (r), bullets, etc., cant be incorporated into your article. Or the respresentations in the preceding sentence may be used.

Layout: Advertisement articles cannot include tabs, special indentations, or centering. But they can include rich text such as bold and italics, as well as hyperlinked URLs and e-mail addresses.

Corrections: Be careful when you enter your text into the online order form. Your ad will be placed online as it appears on that form. ChristianityToday.com will not proofread the text for grammatical or spelling errors.

Also remember that ads should only be placed in categories which specifically match the merchandise or opportunity being offered. In this way, we preserve the topical integrity and user-friendly atmosphere of the ChristianityToday.com Classifieds.

Please construct your ads according to these guidelines. Thank you!

Be careful when you enter your text into the online order form. Your ad will appear online exactly as it appears on that form. ChristianityToday.com will not proofread the text for grammatical or spelling errors.

Caveat Emptor: Let the Buyer (and Seller) Beware

As with any instance of person-to-person trading, whether at a flea market or through newspaper or online classified ads, buyers and sellers must protect themselves from those who intend to cheat others. ChristianityToday.com has created this document to help you prevent unhappy outcomes. However, the responsibility is yours to protect yourself.

Display of advertisements within ChristianityToday.com Classifeds does not imply endorsement by ChristianityToday.com or Christianity Today International of the product(s) promoted within the advertisements. Likewise, neither ChristianityToday.com nor Christianity Today International mediate disputes nor assume responsibility for the outcome of any disputes related to these advertisements.

Guidelines for Minimizing Risk

1. Request personal information, including both home and work addresses and phone numbers. Confirm all information via directory assistance in the other member's locale, calling the other member at home and/or at work to ask questions. Confirm all other information until you are comfortable that the other member is who he/she claims to be.

2. Avoid sending money or merchandise up front. Use COD, which ties the payment to the purchase, or check with your credit card company to learn about their policy for failure to deliver on purchased goods.

3. Keep all records, including saved AOL e-mails, copies of posted ads, shipping papers, notes regarding phone calls, and obviously personal information for at least one year. This is useful for many purposes including those related to safe trading, tax information, and other contingencies. Ads are only posted for a limited period of time. ChristianityToday.com cannot reproduce an ad for you once the ad has expired. We also cannot provide confidential member personal information. Be sure you save everything important to your transaction.

4. Check references. If the seller is affiliated with a company or product brand you are not familiar with, feel free to ask frank questions about the scope of his or her business. You should feel free to ask for names, phone numbers, and screen names for a few satisfied customers. Real businesses won't mind providing a list of recommendations.

5. If a business opportunity or sale looks too good to be true, it probably is. Use common sense.

Again, ChristianityToday.com cannot mediate or legally advise members who are disputing transactions with other members. As with classifieds you would find in other mediums (newspaper, supermarket bulletin boards, radio, etc.), it is your responsibility as an adult to be cautious and to protect yourself.

How to Use the Search

To find an article you will need to type in a word, phrase, or a combination of words about your desired topic. From the main search screen, type in your search words.

1. Join words and phrases with "AND" or "and"

2. Use "OR" or "or" to expand your search

3. Use "NOT" or "not" to eliminate items you don't want

Then, click Search or hit Enter/Return. Double-Click on the item you wish to read about.
